One Third of Women Sleep in Their Makeup, Are You One of Them?
While most makeup wearers love putting it on, few like to take it off!
By now we all know the benefits and virtues of removing it-no one looks forward to the actual process. Often viewed as the loathed, torturous, pantomime, we all endure at the end of the day (or worse after a night out), removing a face full of makeup is often time-consuming and downright uncomfortable! While it may seem harmless, hitting the hay with a face- full of makeup can cause some serious damage!
At night your skin uses the sleep cycle to boost collagen production and repair the damage caused by daily environmental stressors. Having a face full of makeup can inhibit and rob your skin of this beneficial process. By not cleansing your face the residual makeup can form a barrier preventing the skin from exfoliating effectively which can result in a dull, dry, uneven complexion.
However, sleeping with eye-makeup such as mascara, eyeliner and glitter eyeshadows can have significant adverse consequences. Mascara, in particular, tends to clump the lashes together, and when sleeping lashes can become brittle and inverted which can scratch the cornea, fragments can also deposit under the lid and cause severe irritation and even infection. So much for getting your "beauty sleep"!
